Many workplaces are keen to improve staff health and well being through various initiatives.  The NHS is currently promoting its "Walk for Life" challenge, (www.nhswalking.org.uk)  it is thought that workplace programmes that include the use of pedometers actually improve health.  These are thought to work because they facilitate progressive goal settings and allow workers flexibility as to when and where they excercise, especially if individual and group rewards are incorporated.
